PMDD Depression & Low Self Esteem - Ask the Doctor Q & A
I have PMDD that makes me really depressed and gives me low self-esteem and self-confidence. I get really down on myself, which keeps me from being productive, keeps me from being positive, keeps me from being successful in the things I want to accomplish. It feeds on itself when I'm sitting there in my depression state, in bed or in front of the TV. It feeds on itself because my thinking process starts to spiral down. I start to get on myself and I'm full of negative thoughts. I start to tell myself I'm lazy, I'm horrible, I'm unproductive, and then it gets worse—I'm stupid, I'm unworthy to be alive, that kind of thing. It really sucks.

Christine, the kind of severe PMDD depression symptoms you are describing have me concerned about you. It sounds like this is really damaging how you feel about yourself, and it's hard for you to get out of this cycle of negativity.
First, I suggest you talk about this with your doctor. Whether you want to consider taking prescription medication or determine to take a more natural approach, I highly recommend you take action for these symptoms now. You shouldn't have to suffer like this without help.
For many people, the most important factor in getting out of the vicious cycle of depression is taking that first step, whether it's making an appointment with a professional to discuss what you're feeling, or even just recognizing that some change needs to be made. Beyond that, it can be helpful to simply remind yourself that you don't have to believe your negative thoughts, even when they are highly repetitive.
We want you to get the help you need, and the resources and natural health programs on our site are here to help you get started.
